In its latest iOS update, WhatsApp has introduced the ability to send image and video files in their unaltered, native format.
Users now have the choice to send media files without the compression applied by the app for data-saving purposes.
This functionality is different from the HD quality option feature that was introduced earlier this year, which applied minimal compression to maintain more of the original file quality.
To send images and videos in their uncompressed state, users need to tap “+” icon in the chat > Document > Choose Photo or Video.
The chosen image or video files will then be transmitted without compression in their original quality. It’s worth noting that WhatsApp imposes a 2GB limit for sending files in their uncompressed form.
The introduction of this feature has been long-awaited, especially considering that competing app like Telegram have offered a similar option for awhile now.
