Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil affirmed the government’s dedication to establishing further partnerships encompassing both public and private sectors to counter cybercrimes.

Fahmi emphasised that the method of achieving this objective involves public-private partnerships (PPP), which represent a highly effective strategy, according to Malay Mail.

These partnerships, according to Fahmi, stem from a collaborative and impartial framework, allowing cyber security industry stakeholders and governmental bodies to closely collaborate. This, in turn, facilitates a more rapid response to cyber-attacks.

The minister conveyed, “The alliance between government and industry should continually evolve, foster trust, embrace challenges, and optimise the sharing of data.”

Fahmi also added, “We are proactively engaged with industry partners to provide early warnings, swift incident responses, and comprehensive guidance and training to our community for ensuring online safety.”

Highlighting the significance of cyber security for Malaysia’s digital economic advancement, Fahmi stated, “Cybersecurity must be seamlessly integrated into these innovations, ensuring that security measures are not an afterthought but an inherent aspect of design and implementation.”

He also shared a statistical update, noting that as of July of this year, CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM) had recorded 3,327 reported cyber incidents.

Notably, fraudulent activities constituted the majority, accounting for 62% of the overall threats reported year-to-date.

We also reported that the government is planning to introduce Cybersecurity Bill in Parliament either by the end of this year or at the start of the following year and considering establishing the position of a data protection officer within organisations.
