Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin announces that the Ipoh City Council plans to establish a television (TV) station to enhance its creative city status.

He reveals that the council will collaborate with well-known entertainment figure Datuk Afdlin Shauki, whose company recently acquired a television license, according to The Star.

Rumaizi envisions the station as a streaming platform akin to Netflix and “Seri Pentas,” Media Prima’s TV and radio broadcasting centre, leveraging the council’s acquisition of the Pincer MBI Studio to revitalise the industry.

Expressing confidence in the future of digital television, Rumaizi anticipates the realisation of these plans within five years.

Drawing parallels to Mumbai’s Bollywood, he emphasises the evolution of creative economies, envisioning Ipoh as a cultural hub akin to the vibrant Indian city.

Rumaizi aspires for Ipoh to emulate Mumbai’s cultural diversity, incorporating music, film, dance, and gastronomy supported by advanced technology.
