Last week, Apple acknowledged that there’s a problem with iOS 17 and iPhone 15 Pro/ Pro Max following numerous online reports and assured that a forthcoming software update would rectify the overheating issue.
Today, Apple finally pushed out the long-awaited update, especially for the owners of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.
The iOS 17.0.3 update should fix the overheating issue and Apple has been collaborating with the developers of specific apps such as Instagram and Uber, which were overloading the A17 Pro chipset utilised by the two phones in question.
This excessive load was causing issues with heat dissipation. Presumably, this means that some of the most problematic apps will also receive updates in the near future to rectify their behaviour.
The update, which is being rolled out today, also tackles a kernel vulnerability that could potentially allow an attacker to gain elevated privileges.
Apple reports that this flaw was exploited in iOS 16.6 and earlier versions. So, even if you do not own an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max, it’s advisable to update as soon as possible.
It’s worth noting that iPadOS 17.0.3 is also being released, but it contains the security fix only.
