If you stumble upon and/or receive news about the government giving “One-Off Additional Financial Aid of RM500 for Every Malaysian” on social media or in an instant messaging app, the news is absolutely not true.

Bernama reports that the Ministry of Communications and Digital Quick Response Team stated that this was fake news, and the Finance Ministry has issued a statement on its Facebook page saying this was a hoax and advising the public not to fall for it.

The viral fake news stated that every Malaysian is entitled to receive RM500 in financial aid from the government, and there’s a link included with the message asking the recipient to register in order to get the aid.
