Samsung just launched their latest foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5, a couple of days ago but with a starting price of more than RM4,500, they cost a lot of money.

The giant Korean tech company knows that not everyone can afford such expenses, so they are trying to come up with more affordable options.

According to Bloomberg, Samsung is actively exploring the addition of a more affordable foldable phone option to its product lineup, aiming to accelerate the adoption of this innovative form factor.

The company is currently in discussions with its supply partners to reduce manufacturing costs of foldables while maintaining essential features and specifications.

By expanding its product range to lower price points, Samsung, with its foldable devices, seeks to directly compete with Apple’s mainstream iPhone range.

To maintain its dominant market share, Samsung is pursuing a dual-track strategy. On one hand, it promotes its flagship foldables as premium offerings, while on the other, it aims to lower the entry-level cost to appeal to a broader consumer base.

Chinese Android device manufacturers have also entered the foldable market, though their presence has been primarily focused on the domestic market.

Although competitors are emerging, Samsung remains the leading global seller of foldable smartphones. This growing competition indicates that foldables are becoming more mainstream.

To stay ahead, Samsung plans to collaborate with software partners like Google, Meta Platforms, and Microsoft, specifically exploring opportunities for generative AI technology. These discussions with software giants aim to strengthen Samsung’s position in the ever-evolving foldable smartphone landscape.
