The government is currently targeting 80% 5G coverage of populated areas by the end of 2023 and now we are more than halfway there.
Malay Mail reports that according to Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, the 5G network coverage in Malaysia has reached 59.5% as of the end of April. However, in Sarawak, the coverage is only at 34%.
Fahmi expressed that the current access rate in Sarawak is insufficient, and he is urging the Sarawak state government to provide a list of locations where they would like to have 5G access.
He also emphasised the importance of coordination between the state government and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to facilitate the rollout of 5G in the desired locations.
The previous administration stated that they are planning to hit 93.6% internet coverage throughout the state including rural areas by 2025.
