Today at the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event, the Korean company announces several new devices. There’s a new flip and foldable phone and a new lineup of tablets and smartwatches.
Galaxy Z Flip5
The biggest difference between Flip4 and Flip5 is the much bigger outer screen called Flex Window. It’s a 3.4-inch 60Hz Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 720 x 748 (306 ppi). Users can check the weather, take selfies, reply messages, control music playback and listen to their favourite music with Media Controller, or catch up on the latest global stock market updates with the Google Finance widget on the Flex Window. Also, the new Flex Hinge design made it possible to fold the phone with very little gaps on the sides.
The Flip5 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, with 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. The phone has a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and a resolution of 2640 x 1080.
It has a 10MP Selfie Camera and two rear cameras: a 12MP Ultra Wide Camera and a 12MP Wide-angle Camera Dual with Pixel AF and OIS.
To keep the phone running, there’s a 3,700mAh battery with support for 25W wired charging that is capable of charging the phone up to 50% in around 30 minutes. The phone also supports Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 and Wireless PowerShare.
Besides that, the Flip5 has an IPX8 water-resistance rating, WiFi 6E, 5G, Bluetooth 5.3, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and running One UI 5.1.1 (Android 13) out of the box.
Galaxy Z Fold5
Samsung said the Fold5 is the thinnest and lightest Fold yet, with software improvements that focus on multitasking experiences. The S Pen Fold Edition has also gotten slimmer and more compact. Furthermore, the innovative Flex Hinge design allows the phone to be folded with minimal gaps on the sides when compared to Fold4.
The Fold5 is also powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, with 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage. The cover screen is a 6.2-inch HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display with a resolution of 2316 x 904 (402ppi), and support 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The inner screen is a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex Display with a resolution of 2176 x 1812 (374ppi), and 120Hz adaptive refresh rate.
The cover screen has a 10MP Selfie Camera, while the inner screen has an under-display 4MP Camera. On the rear, there’s a triple camera setup: a 12MP Ultra Wide Camera, a 50MP Wide-angle Camera, and a 10MP Telephoto Camera.
Inside the foldable, there’s a 4,400mAh battery that supports 25W wired charging that can charge the phone up to 50% in around 30 minutes. The phone also supports Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 and Wireless PowerShare.
In addition, the Fold5 comes equipped with several notable features, including an IPX8 water resistance rating, WiFi 6E capability, Bluetooth 5.3, 5G, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and it runs on One UI 5.1.1 (based on Android 13) right out of the box.
Pricing and Availability
The Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5 will be available in Malaysia nationwide from 18 August 2023 onwards.
