On November 2022, (Celcom) Axiata Group Bhd and (Digi) Telenor Asia Pte Ltd announced that the merger of Celcom Axiata Bhd and Digi.com Bhd’s telco businesses had been completed.
After the merger was completed, Axiata and Telenor each hold 33.1% of the newly formed company, CelcomDigi and it became the nation’s largest telco, and also the largest local listed technology company on Bursa Malaysia with 20 million customers.
The Edge Markets reports that Axiata Group is planning to keep both the Digi and Celcom brands on the market for the foreseeable future, with network integration anticipated to occur over the following two years.
According to Axiata’s joint acting group CEO Vivek Sood, he said Axiata plans to “keep the two brands in existence” for the time being even though “things are pretty much in place” for integration efforts.
Vivek mentioned that both Digi and Celcom will persist, and they haven’t decided whether to merge them into one brand or keep them as two separate brands in the future. He stated that currently, they see value in maintaining both brands, and the business will continue as usual for customers.
He added that there is a strong alignment and plans to carry out integration activities, and the progress in terms of organisational integration and implementation plans is satisfactory.
