An online conference was hosted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, with Ruth Porat, the president and chief investment officer of technology giant Alphabet and Google. Anwar, also serving as the Finance Minister, announced that this session followed their meeting in the United States last year.
During the conference, Porat provided updates on the areas in which Alphabet and Google could expand in Malaysia, building upon Anwar’s previous briefing on the government’s mission and priorities, according to Bernama.
Discussions also centered on the importance of collaboration and support for technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in sectors such as education, health, and agriculture.
Anwar stressed the necessity for these initiatives to deliver comprehensive economic and social benefits, ensuring inclusivity across all demographics, particularly in terms of technology literacy.
Anwar expressed hope that these efforts would yield results, particularly in launching the national technology transition plan and generating employment opportunities.
Last November, the Malaysian government and Google announced a strategic partnership aimed at fostering inclusive growth opportunities for more Malaysians and domestic companies in the rapidly evolving digital economy.
