Zeekr (pronounced as Zeeker), a luxury electric vehicle (EV) brand under the Geely group, contemplates entry into Malaysia’s automotive market with its newly developed right-hand drive (RHD) vehicles.

Zhao Chunlin, Vice President of Technology at Zhejiang Zeekr Intelligent Technology Co Ltd, states that the global electric mobility technology brand aims to market the RHD vehicles, along with left-hand drive models, in at least 50 international markets by year-end, according to Bernama.

He reveals that the brand, currently operating in over 20 foreign markets, plans expansion into Malaysia, Thailand, New Zealand, Australia, and others.

Zeekr actively seeks opportunities, including international market expansion, which could potentially benefit Malaysia given the partnership between Geely and Proton Holdings Bhd, with Geely Holding holding a 49.9% stake in Proton.

The Zeekr Intelligent Factory in Ningbo employs advanced technology and innovative processes to ensure superior product quality, prioritising transparency, efficiency, and sustainability. Zeekr aims to double its deliveries in 2024 to 230,000 cars from 118,685 in 2023.

Recently, the automaker commenced pre-orders for the RHD Zeekr X urban SUV and Zeekr 009 MPV vehicles in Thailand, responding to growing demand for high-quality smart EVs in the Southeast Asian region.

Utilising Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) and incorporating proprietary battery technologies, battery management systems, electric motor technologies, and electric vehicle supply chain, Zeekr is poised for further growth and innovation.
