Xiaomi is well-known for its smartphones and smart appliances globally, but for the first time in the company’s history, they are now taking a step into the burgeoning and competitive electric vehicle (EV) market by introducing two EV cars, the SU7 and SU7 Max.

According to ArenaEV, the Xiaomi SU7, which stands for Speed Ultra, is positioned as a high-performance vehicle with a rear-wheel-drive motor that produces 299 PS output and 400 Nm torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.28 seconds and achieves a top speed of 210 km/h, boasting a CLTC range of 668 km.

For the dual-motor version, named SU7 Max, Xiaomi enhances the power with a combined horsepower of 673 hp (495 kW) and peak torque of 838 Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.78 seconds, surpassing both the Porsche Taycan Turbo and Tesla Model S (non-Plaid version). The SU7 Max also offers a remarkable range of 800 km.

With dimensions of 4,997 mm in length, 1,963 mm in width, and 1,455 mm in height, the SU7 positions itself as a mid-to-large-sized sedan, drawing comparisons to the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S. Xiaomi aims to distinguish itself with a low wind resistance of Cd 0.195, purportedly the lowest among production cars globally.

Powering the SU7 is the 800V Qilin Battery from CATL, boasting a capacity of 101 kWh. Xiaomi claims that a 5-minute charge can provide a range of 220 km, while a 15-minute charge extends that to 510 km. Details about the battery of the base SU7 version are not disclosed.

The smart cockpit of the SU7, featuring a 16.1-inch center screen with 3K resolution, is driven by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip. The smart driving system runs on two Nvidia Orin X chips with a total computing power of 508 TOPS.

Reuters reports that Xiaomi has pledged to invest USD10 billion (~RM45.8 billion) in autos over a decade and the company’s CEO Lei Jun said, “By working hard over the next 15 to 20 years, we will become one of the world’s top five automakers, striving to lift China’s overall automobile industry.” He also added that Xiaomi wants to build “a dream car comparable to Porsche and Tesla.”

At the time of writing, Xiaomi didn’t announce the pricing for the SU7 and SU7 Max or its availability. We assume these two EVs will only be available in China.
