Cloudflare: Malaysia Witnesses 6% Spike In Internet Traffic In Q1 2024

The cloud services provider stated that the industries in Malaysia most targeted by cyber attacks include gaming/gambling, cryptocurrency, information technology and services, as well as airlines/aviation.

During the first quarter (Q1) of 2024, Malaysia experienced a 6% increase in overall internet traffic compared to fourth quarter of 2023, as reported by Cloudflare, a cloud services provider company.

Cloudflare’s quarterly report, titled Global Internet Trends and Insight, unveiled a 19% rise in mitigated traffic originating from Malaysia during the same period, according to Bernama.

Throughout Q1 2024, Cloudflare handled an average of 23 billion daily content requests destined for Malaysia.

Out of these daily requests, approximately 929 million, or 4%, were identified as cyber-attacks and blocked each day. These attacks, primarily distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, saw a 19% increase quarter-on-quarter, according to Cloudflare.

Cloudflare provided additional details on DDoS attacks, noting that the most targeted industries in Malaysia during Q1 2024 included gaming/gambling, cryptocurrency, information technology and services, as well as airlines/aviation.
