Civil servants can now register for the National Digital Identity (MyDigital ID) online, ahead of its anticipated public release after Aidilfitri.

According to Bernama, Dr Saat Shukri Embong, the acting President and Chief Executive Officer of MIMOS Berhad, highlighted that individuals interested in registering must download the updated MyDigital ID app from PlayStore or Apple Store.

Saat added that the Cabinet of Ministers had approved the early online registration process after considering feedback from legal bodies and ministries on data protection compliance.

To oversee the effective and transparent implementation of the program, MyDigital ID Sdn Bhd, a special purpose vehicle wholly owned by MIMOS, has been established.

Dr Saat emphasised the security of the system, assuring that user data breaches or violations would not occur.

Currently, only 45,000 civil servants have manually registered for MyDigital ID, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim being the first individual.

He expressed confidence that a significant increase in registrations will occur once the online registration option is made available.

MyDigital ID serves as a digital identification and verification method, benefiting both the public and private sectors by confirming users’ identities during online transactions.

A budget allocation of RM80 million was granted to MIMOS by the prime minister on 21 November 2023 to expedite the implementation of the program.
