Teo Nie Ching, the Deputy Communications Minister, said that the state of Johor would achieve full cellular internet access coverage with the help of the National Digital Network Plan (Jendela), which is building 287 new telecommunication (telco) towers in the state.
As of the fourth quarter of 2023, 182 towers have been successfully erected, while the remainder is presently undergoing construction and is anticipated to be fully operational by 2025, according to Bernama.
Teo disclosed that a total of 4,701 towers have undergone upgrades to 4G/LTE, with 16 towers currently in the upgrading process and scheduled to be operational by 2025.
Presently, Johor enjoys 99.16% coverage of 4G/LTE, and in the Segamat parliamentary constituency, cellular internet coverage for populated areas has reached 97.84%.
Despite these advancements, Teo acknowledged existing coverage challenges in specific areas of Johor, such as Sengkang Lengga and Kampung Gelang Cincin in Kulai.
She highlighted that these issues predominantly affect interior regions, Felda settlements, or villages. However, Teo assured that the Jendela project would address these concerns and extend assistance to these areas.
