According to Minister of Communications Fahmi Fadzil, as of December 2023, the 5G network coverage in Selangor has attained a remarkable 95.9%. Fahmi emphasised the significance of this achievement, especially for a state like Selangor, driven by industries and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Despite the impressive coverage, feedback from telecommunications companies indicates that many industry players and SMEs have not fully capitalised on the benefits offered by the 5G network, according to Bernama.

Fahmi highlighted a usage gap among industries, revealing that numerous companies and industry players have yet to harness the full potential of 5G for industrial purposes.

To address this issue, Fahmi, along with Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz and Selangor Chief Minister Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, pledged to continue engaging with industry players, particularly in industrial zones. The aim is to ensure optimal usage of the 5G facility.

Fahmi underscored the Ministry’s commitment, facilitated through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), in ensuring the nationwide effective rollout of the 5G network. He encouraged all stakeholders, especially industry players, to welcome these efforts.

Highlighting the potential of 5G networks with an interconnection capability of up to 1,000 devices in a single connection, Fahmi stressed the need for industry players to transition from 4G to a more efficient service.

Meanwhile, Fahmi shared that out of Malaysia’s 45 million mobile phone user accounts, approximately eight million devices supporting 5G were in use by the end of November last year. He expressed optimism that this positive achievement could be fully harnessed, particularly in states with high industrial activity, such as Selangor.
