The Sustainability Achieved via Energy Efficiency (SAVE) 4.0 program provides an e-rebate of up to RM400 for acquiring energy-efficient electrical appliances.

Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, the Minister of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change, announced the allocation of RM50 million from the Electrical Supply Industry Trust Account (AAIBE) for SAVE 4.0 during the program’s launch, according to NST.

Expressing the program’s objectives, Nik Nazmi stated, “Through this programme, our goal is to inspire more electricity users to adopt energy-efficient practices, leading to both energy savings and reduced electricity bills.

“The provision of subsidies or rebates in the future will be further streamlined with the forthcoming Padu system, enhancing the calculation of electricity subsidies.”

Nik Nazmi clarified that the e-rebate is applicable to the purchase of air-conditioners and refrigerators labeled with 4 or 5 stars for energy efficiency by the Energy Commission.

He highlighted the success of SAVE 3.0, achieving 324 Gigawatt-hours (GWh) of energy savings, translating to an annual cost reduction of RM129.4 million and a decrease of 281,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

For Malaysian citizens, the application is limited to one electricity bill account for electrical appliances bought this year, operating on a first-come, first-served basis starting today.

Consumers can claim these rebates either by presenting their electricity bill in person at registered stores or supermarkets during the purchase of electrical items or by applying for an e-rebate through recognised e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Lazada, and PG Mall.

Launched in 2011 and managed by the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia, the SAVE program aligns with the Entry Point Project 9 strategy under Key Economic Outcomes, focusing on enhancing energy efficiency in Malaysia.

Its goal is to raise public awareness and encourage the adoption of energy-efficient appliances, particularly among domestic consumers.
