We are living in a time where there are growing concerns about social media privacy. To alleviate this concern, WhatsApp is preparing to launch a forthcoming feature known as “Alternate Profile.”

This feature seeks to offer users an extra level of privacy by enabling them to conceal their original profiles.

According to WABetaInfo, the alternate profile feature allows users to maintain a restricted profile visible to their contacts while presenting a different name and image to those who view them on WhatsApp but aren’t in their contact list.

Many users currently choose to safeguard their profile photos, revealing them solely to individuals in their phone’s contact list.

For others not saved in the user’s contacts, a blank profile photo is displayed. With this feature, these individuals can be presented with an alternative profile photo and name.

In essence, this functionality will safeguard user privacy, particularly when interacting with people outside their regular contacts, such as clients, coworkers, or total strangers.

It eliminates the need to share a personal photo with them, while also preventing the display of a profile without a photo.

The alternate profile privacy feature is currently in the development phase and is slated for inclusion in a forthcoming app update.
