OnePlus has officially commenced its teaser and hype-building campaign for its upcoming foldable phone, the OnePlus Open.

To do that, the company seeks the help of a famous YouTuber, Unbox Therapy. The YouTuber had a short interview with OnePlus head honcho Pete Lau about the foldable phone.

The device’s hinge design is being highlighted, and it’s worth noting that OnePlus, or more likely its parent company Oppo, holds 35 patents related to it.

Demonstrating its seamless hinge, the OnePlus Open closes without any gap, as demonstrated in a test where a sheet of paper was trapped inside and then the phone was lifted using that sheet of paper without it sliding off.

There’s a piece of paper or a cardboard covering the substantial camera bump, making it impossible to see the details.

But we already have an idea how the camera bump will looks like, thanks to an Indian actress.

Compared to the Oppo Find N2, the Open’s hinge incorporates 31 fewer components, resulting in a 37% reduction in size and weight.

Lau asserts that his company is determined to deliver the best phone in the foldable market, even though they did not enter the foldable race early.

He assures users of a fast and smooth experience, consistent with what they’ve come to expect from other OnePlus devices, and mentions that the alert slider is included in the design.

Lau reveals that the device was a collaborative effort between OnePlus and Oppo teams, each contributing their unique expertise.

Additionally, he hints at multiple ‘go-to-market’ strategies, suggesting that the same device might be marketed as the OnePlus Open internationally and as the Oppo Find N3 in China.

Lastly, for those hoping for a OnePlus flip phone, Lau states that such a device is not on the immediate horizon. He said that the typical flip phone user is not the same demographic that purchases OnePlus devices.

Although Lau didn’t say when they would launch the OnePlus Open, except for the fact that it’s coming in Q3 2023, rumours suggest that they will be launching the phone on 19 October 2023.
