Ericsson today inaugurated its global Imagine Live event in Malaysia, showcasing some of its advanced 5G use cases and technology innovations that will accelerate Malaysia’s digitalisation journey.
The event was inaugurated by the Minister of Communications and Digital Fahmi Fadzil on site today in the presence of senior representatives from the government and industry.
Some of the highlights of the technology showcase included the latest, energy-efficient radio solutions from Ericsson, digital twins, VoLTE enabled unified communications and network automation.
In addition, the event featured 5G uses cases such as the demonstration of an immersive, holographic experience in the metaverse, which has applications in the future for immersive communications, trainings, and remote technical support.
Another exciting consumer use case on show was HADO, a cutting-edge augmented reality esports platform that originated in Japan.
It combines physical activity with the immersive power of augmented reality technology to create entirely new ways of playing and competing.
The event also featured insightful discussions with leading industry experts on the enablers for Malaysia ‘s journey towards becoming a ‘Digital Tiger’ in the region.
David Hägerbro, Head of Ericsson Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, emphasised the transformative potential of 5G technology during the event and highlighted that Malaysia’s 5G rollout is among the world’s fastest and most affordable, with top-notch network performance.
He believes that 5G will propel Malaysia’s digitalisation efforts and position the country ahead of regional economies.
Ericsson is actively constructing Malaysia’s 5G network for Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), leveraging its global expertise to provide a world-class network and user experience. As of August, 68.8% of populated areas in Malaysia have 5G coverage, with plans to reach 80% by year-end.
Hägerbro emphasised the importance of 5G connectivity as a crucial component for successful digitalisation, offering high performance, low latency, coverage, scalability, reliability, and security.
He noted that 5G connectivity in Malaysia is available even in rural areas through Fixed Wireless Access technology, contributing to bridging the digital divide.
Malaysia ranks among the top 5 countries globally for download speed, particularly in Southeast Asia, according to reports like OpenSignal. Hägerbro also stressed the need for collaboration and ecosystem development to harness the digital potential of Malaysia’s 5G network.
