Just two days to go before Malaysians go out to vote and decide the fate of this country. All parties are trying their best to get people to vote for them through various methods such as giving speeches, doing livestream on social media, advertising themselves online and etc. But the action of one major political party might end up costing them votes.
BFM News reported that people are incensed after they received unsolicited SMSes that allegedly came from Perikatan Nasional (PN), calling the practise invasive and equating it to fraud.
Initially, netizens thought they were getting an SMS from Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya (SPR), also known as the Election Commission, but when they clicked the link, they saw it was actually from PN.
Inside the link, it has all the voter’s information, name, IC number, voting place, and etc. These details are exactly the same as the ones you can find on the MySemakSPR site.
Could this be related to the recent news where someone selling is the data of more than 800,000 voters online? Or do the political parties have access to the voters’ information in another way? These are the questions that remains unanswered.
