The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has established approximately 10 free electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in various locations within the local authority’s jurisdiction.
Shah Alam Mayor Dr. Nor Fuad Abdul Hamid stated that these charging stations are available at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque, Wisma MBSA, and MBSA branch offices, according to Bernama.
He also mentioned that MBSA had previously partnered with the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology, and Water (KeTTHA) to set up the existing 10 EV charging stations.
Presently, numerous private companies have expressed interest in collaborating with MBSA to set up additional EV charging stations.
Nor Fuad further elaborated that MBSA is actively identifying suitable locations based on demand and requirements. City centers and shopping complexes in Shah Alam are among the prime locations targeted for the installation of more charging stations.
In July, the state government devised a plan to establish approximately 1,000 EV charging stations across 12 local authority areas within the state by the year’s end, with a particular focus on Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Klang, Kajang, and Ampang Jaya.
Former state Tourism and Environment Committee chairman Hee Loy Sian revealed that, as of July, there were already 102 EV charging stations throughout the state, and discussions were ongoing to expand this network further.
