Yesterday, Huawei surprises everyone by unveiling the Mate 60 Pro without an extensive teaser campaign or a big event to launch the flagship phone.

The company has already made the new smartphone available for pre-order on its online store in China.

The Mate 60 Pro is equipped with Huawei’s Kirin 9000S chipset. According to Sparrowsnews, the chip has one ARM Cortex-A72 (or A78AE?) clocked at 2.62 GHz, three Cortex-A72 (or A78AE?) cores clocked at 2.15 GHz, and four Cortex-A510 cores clocked at 1.53 GHz. The in-house Maleoon-910 GPU operates at a clock speed of 750 MHz.

The Kirin 9000S is supposedly more powerful than Snapdragon 888, but still not as powerful as the 8 Gen 1.

It has 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. The phone has a big 6.82-inch 10-bit LTPO OLED screen with a 2720 x 1260 pixels resolution and 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate. The Mate 60 Pro display is protected by a second-generation Kunlun Glass.

A set of three holes on the screen accommodates a 13 MP ultrawide front-facing camera, as well as the sensors and lasers required for 3D facial mapping, which powers the Face ID functionality.

On the back of the phone, there’s a 50MP main camera with OIS and PDAF and f/1.4-f/4.0 variable aperture, a 12MP ultrawide sensor with f/2.2 lens and a 48MP sensor with f/3.0 telephoto lens with OIS, and AF.

In China, the Mate 60 Pro supports satellite messaging and the 5,000mAh battery is compatible with rapid 88W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and even 20W reverse wireless charging.

Running on HarmonyOS 4.0, the Mate 60 Pro stands as the first device to feature this user interface.

The device boasts a dual-tone rear panel, presenting a choice among four distinct colour variants. In the White and Green options, the upper portion is constructed from glass, while the Purple and Black alternatives feature a faux leather finish.

These colour options are thoughtfully named after locations in China, reflecting Huawei’s inspiration drawn from the country’s natural landscapes during the development process, according to GSMArena.

Pricing and Availability

The Mate 60 Pro comes with 12 GB RAM and three storage options – 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB. However, only the 512GB model is listed for pre-order for CNY6,999 (approx. RM4,452)

Huawei didn’t say anything about global availability, but we know it will be coming to Malaysia in the near future.
