More than a week ago, WhatsApp introduced a new feature where users could send HD (high-definition) photos to friends, family, and colleagues. During that time, the company said they would introduce HD videos sharing soon.

Well, that soon is now here, as WhatsApp has started releasing the feature to iOS and Android users globally, according to TechCrunch.

Much like the HD photos feature, this new feature allow users to actively share high-definition videos on WhatsApp.

Previously, the app’s resolution limit led to the compression of high-definition videos to 480p. However, the new update enables users to choose to transmit videos in HD, albeit limited to 720p.

The procedure mirrors that of sharing HD photos. Once you’ve selected the video you want to share, simply tap the recently introduced HD button located at the top of the screen.

A dialogue box will emerge, allowing you to confirm whether you wish to share in Standard Quality or HD Quality, along with a display of the corresponding file sizes. Upon confirmation, you can proceed to send the video as you typically would.

It’s important to note that WhatsApp ensures the safeguarding of images and videos shared through its platform via end-to-end encryption.

Recipients of the shared video within the app will observe a small HD badge, indicating that you’ve shared the content in HD.

This badge provides recipients with the choice to decide whether they currently have the sufficient storage space and bandwidth to enjoy the shared video in its HD quality.

The feature is currently in the process of being rolled out. If you haven’t received it yet, it should be on your app soon.
