Nintendo has informed game publishers that the release of its next-generation console will be postponed to the early months of 2025.
Despite initial plans to launch the successor to the popular Switch by the end of this year, several publishers have been informed of the delay, with the exact release date undisclosed as the device has not been officially announced, according to Bloomberg.
Nintendo has conveyed to certain publishing executives that they should not anticipate the console before March 2025 at the earliest.
Consequently, the next console will miss the crucial holiday shopping period, typically considered optimal for new console introductions.
Analyst Serkan Toto, based in Tokyo, interprets Nintendo’s limited lineup of games for the Switch this year as an indication that the company is reserving its major releases for the next-gen Switch.
He suggests that Nintendo may focus on remakes of old hits in 2024, anticipating a more challenging year for the company without the launch of a new device.
Switch 2 Specs
According to Digital Foundry, the rumoured specifications for the Switch 2 indicate that it will utilise a cutting-edge mobile processor featuring an octo-core ARM A78C CPU cluster.
This processor will be complemented by a custom graphics unit, based on Nvidia’s RTX 30-series Ampere architecture.
Additionally, the Switch 2 is said to incorporate certain elements backported from the latest RTX 40-series Ada Lovelace GPUs, enhancing its overall graphics capabilities.
