If you have been listening to Spotify, you know that they offer personalised playlists based on the songs that you have listened to.
Spotify says “personalised playlists are different for each listener, based on their unique taste.” They added that the playlists are “created by algorithms that look at listener habits (what they play, save, share, skip, etc.) and the habits of people with similar taste.”
Now, Apple is trying to do the same. According to TechCrunch, in a bid to rival Spotify’s personalised playlists, Apple Music recently introduced a new algorithmic radio station named “Discovery Station.”
Unlike its counterpart, the Discovery Station exclusively broadcasts new tracks that listeners haven’t encountered before.
It specifically curates songs that don’t exist within a user’s playlists, haven’t been favourited, or are absent from their music library.
While Apple Music already presents a ‘New Music Mix,’ this compilation is refreshed on a weekly basis and is confined to a mere 25 selections.
Moreover, Apple also provides a personalised station labelled as “[User Name’s] station,” which blends together user favourites with a selection of similar tunes.
Although the company hasn’t issued any formal announcement regarding this new algorithmic discovery playlist, users are starting to notice its presence both on the Apple Music web platform and within the mobile applications.
