Whatsapp is working on a new animated avatar update that will allow users to create an animated version of their current avatar pack that they can use in the messaging platform.

For now, according to WABetaInfo, it is being rolled out to beta testers but the feature will eventually be available to users in the coming weeks.

To find out if you already have the feature, all you need to do is to check the avatar tab in a conversation and if the avatars are animated, that means you can share them.

Another way is to look at the version of your app on your Android phone; if it’s 2.23.16.12, then you should be able to use the new feature.

WABetaInfo mentions that animated avatars will work with users who don’t have the update yet, which means beta testers can share their animated avatars with non-testers.

Previous reports have stated that this feature will be available for both iOS and Android users, bringing new improvements such as allowing users to create their avatar by taking a photo and a newly expanded collection of avatars.
