If you go to Unifi site right now, under the “Broadband” product category, you can only see “Unifi Home” and “Unifi Air”. There’s no mention of a 5G wireless broadband internet plan on the front page.

Telekom Malaysia (TM) does offer Uni5G postpaid and prepaid plan, but that is different to the plan that we are talking about right now.

Yesterday, a user on X found out that TM has been offering a new 5G wireless broadband internet plan for quite some time now.

The new plan is called “UNI5G Air” and according to the FAQ, TM has been offering this plan at least since May 2023.

This plan is priced at RM149 per month (excluding 6% service tax) and it offers up to 150 Mbps with “unlimited” data quota, but it’s subjected to Unifi Fair Usage Policy (FUP).

The advertised speed of up to 150Mbps for both upload and download is subject to various external factors, including the location of the router, the number of connected devices, and potential interference.

You can choose to take the plan without a contract if you opt for the SIM-only. However, if you require a 5G wireless modem, it will be provided for free but with a 24-month contract.

The UNI5G Air plan is designed for data-only usage, meaning you cannot use the SIM for voice calls or SMS.

It’s important to note that there is an early termination penalty. TM states that the UNI5G Air router costs RM1,300, and if you terminate your plan during your contract period, you will be charged with early termination fees based on the remaining months of the contract.

For example:
Sample calculation for UNI5G Air router (RRP = RM1,300) with 5 months remaining contract:

(RM1300 ÷ 24 months) x Remaining Month(s)
Penalty Fee: RM54.20 x 5 months = RM271

Besides that, subscribers must pay an upfront payment of RM149 for registration, or RM300 for non-Malaysians.

The service is available only for users within 5G coverage areas. You can head over HERE to check whether you are living in a 5G area.
