The rise of fake news on messaging apps has become a significant concern in the digital age. These platforms, such as Telegram, have become breeding grounds for the rapid spread of misinformation and hoaxes. Users often come across sensationalised or fabricated stories, leading to confusion and panic among the public. In this case, people have been spreading a fake news about additional financial aid from the government.

The Edge Malaysia reports that according to the Ministry of Finance (MoF), the message circulating on the Telegram app, which claims an additional RM600 Rahmah Cash Aid (STR) payment will be given out, is fake.

MoF stated that the STR Phase 3 payment commenced on 26 June 2023, with the appeal period running from 3 July to 31 July 2023, ensuring that eligible individuals benefited from the program. Applicants can submit the necessary documents to the Inland Revenue Board for review.

MoF would like to emphasised that the information regarding the extra RM600 STR payment is false and advises the public to rely on official channels for accurate news and information.
