In contrast with other social media platforms that are actively seeking to boost user engagement, Elon Musk, known for his eccentricity, opts to take a different approach.

Yesterday, Musk tweeted that Twitter was instituting a temporary restriction on the number of tweets per day that different accounts can read to deter excessive data scraping and system manipulation.

He said that verified accounts were initially restricted to reading 6,000 posts per day. Additionally, he stated that unverified accounts would be limited to 600 posts a day, while new unverified accounts would have a further limitation of 300 posts per day.

According to Reuters, Musk said that numerous organisations have been aggressively scraping data from Twitter, leading to negative effects on user experience. He has also previously expressed dissatisfaction with artificial intelligence companies, such as OpenAI, the entity behind ChatGPT, for utilising Twitter data to train their large language models.

When Musk first expressed interest in acquiring Twitter, he made a commitment to make the company better. His aim was to improve transparency, reduce the presence of bots, strengthen the business, and promote what he referred to as “free speech.” But what he has been doing up until this point is anything but that.
