Right now, there’s no way for you to edit messages on WhatsApp. You can only delete it and write it again. But the giant instant messaging company is working on it to allow users to do so.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is introducing the option to edit messages on its web version, initially as a beta feature for selected testers.
Users can access the “edit messages” action by opening the menu options for a text message. Upon selecting this option, a new window will appear where the message can be modified.
If this feature is enabled for a user’s WhatsApp account, they have a time frame of 15 minutes to make edits to their messages in both chats and groups. Multiple edits are possible within this timeframe.
The editing limit is implemented to ensure the authenticity of conversations, preventing users from completely altering messages after a significant period of time. The purpose of this feature is primarily to correct typing errors rather than changing the message’s content entirely.
WABetaInfo said that only text messages can be edited, and future updates are planned to enhance the editing capabilities. Initially available to beta testers in the official WhatsApp Web beta program, the editing feature will gradually roll out to more users in the coming weeks.
According to WABetaInfo, this functionality will also be introduced to the mobile apps in the near future.
