Sony announced the redesigned PS5, which is now slimmer and smaller, last week. The new PS5 now includes an attachable Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive and a 1TB SSD for increased internal storage.
It has reduced its volume by more than 30% and cut its weight by 18% and 24% when compared to the previous models.
It features four separate cover panels, with a glossy look on the top portion and a matte finish on the bottom. If you opt for the PS5 Digital Edition, you can later add the Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive for PS5.
There’s no CPU or GPU improvement for these new PS5 models, just visual changes and smaller components.
During the announcement last week, Sony didn’t announce the local pricing, but the company finally announced it a couple of days ago.
Pricing and Availability
In Malaysia, the disc and digital versions retain the same pricing at RM2,499 and RM2,069, respectively.
Even though the digital version now costs USD50 (~RM237) more, Malaysia was spared from the price increase.
But if you decide to buy the attachable Blu-ray disc drive later on, it will be more expensive than just buying the disc version, as it retails for RM529, for a total price of RM2,598.
The Vertical Stand is priced at RM149, but Sony didn’t release any local pricing for the cover panels that come in a variety of colours.
Sony says the PS5 Slim will be heading to the U.S. first starting next month, with global availability in the following months.
