Back in early February 2023, the Transport Minister, Anthony Loke introduced a way for drivers to show their driver’s licence and road tax digitally through the MyJPJ app. The electronic version of the private vehicle road tax sticker is known as the e-LKM, while the electronic version of the Malaysian driver’s licence is known as the e-LMM. It seems the app has been well-received judging by the number of downloads and registrations.
Malay Mail reports that according to Datuk Zailani Hashim, the director-general of the Road Transport Department (JPJ), since its launch on 10 February, a total of 2.971 million vehicle owners have downloaded and registered on the MyJPJ app.
He said that the JPJ has been successful in promoting the application to vehicle owners to help them manage their affairs more easily. Datuk Zailani stated that the public should familiarise themselves with the MyJPJ app and that an upgrade will be available by mid-year to allow for the viewing and renewal of their licenses.
For those who have issues with internet coverage or don’t have a phone, the Smart Management Enforcement Device (SMED) will be used. For drivers who have difficulties displaying their driving licenses and digital road tax, JPJ will use the SMED to register their identity (ID) and enable access to their licenses and road tax digitally.
