Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil stated that the Cabinet is still in the process of finalising discussions regarding the redistribution of portfolios and agencies after the Cabinet reshuffle on 12 December.

This includes determining which ministry will oversee the 5G infrastructure entity, Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB).

The Edge Malaysia reports that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is yet to address certain aspects of the matter, particularly those related to the ministries that were separated, according to Fahmi.

Specifically, the decision on whether the DNB will fall under the Ministry of Communications or the Ministry of Digital remains pending for the Ministry of Communications.

Fahmi mentioned during a press conference on Wednesday (3 January) that discussions are ongoing, and decisions are awaited. The Ministry of Communications and Digital, previously led by Fahmi, was divided into two ministries, with Gobind Singh Deo now heading the Ministry of Digital.

Regarding the 5G network coverage of populated areas (CoPA) in Malaysia, Fahmi mentioned that the ministry is still awaiting the latest status update on the network’s implementation.

However, he anticipates receiving the information in the next few days and expects to reach 80% CoPA for the 5G network soon, enabling the implementation of the dual network approach.
