Sony’s last portable gaming console was the PlayStation Vita (PS Vita), which was launched in December 2011. Though the console was quite well-received by fans, Sony considered it to be a commercial failure and cut Vita’s life short. Ever since then, the Japanese tech giant has been focusing on PS4, PS VR, and now PS5. But, it seems Sony is once again ready to make another portable gaming console, if the rumour is true.
According to Insider Gaming, they said that Sony is developing a new handheld console codenamed “Q Lite”. But this handheld is not similar to PS Vita, because it requires a PS5 to work. It uses Remote Play with the PS5 to stream games up to 1080p and 60fps from the console over the internet to the handheld.
The initial models indicate that it will resemble a PS5 controller to a great extent. However, it will have a large 8-inch LCD touchscreen positioned at the centre. The device will also have adaptive triggers to provide haptic feedback, as well as standard features found in a handheld device such as volume buttons, speakers, and an audio input jack.
Insider Gaming has information that suggests the Q Lite is currently undergoing quality assurance testing and is planned to launch after the Detachable Disc Drive PS5 but before the PS5 Pro. The PS5 Pro is reportedly aiming for a holiday 2024 release.
