The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), is spearheading the establishment of Malaysia’s inaugural Faculty of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to address present demands.
Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir disclosed that the Higher Education Committee (JKPT) approved the AI Bachelor’s Degree programme in January. He further stated that the first cohort of the program is slated to commence their studies in October this year, according to a news report by Bernama.
Zambry emphasised that the development of AI and its curriculum has been meticulously tailored to meet industrial requisites. This process involved collaboration with AI experts and aligns with the objectives outlined in the National Artificial Intelligence Roadmap 2021-2025, pioneered by the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI).
Moreover, MOHE is actively dedicated to fulfilling the nation’s agenda of cultivating skilled professionals who can adeptly navigate the evolving job market and future-proof graduates.
Zambry highlighted MOHE’s implementation of a High Value and High Technology Programme Development Framework, which aims to equip graduates with the competencies needed to thrive in the dynamic and competitive landscape of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
