The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) has led to concerns that it may replace human workers in various industries. While some jobs are already being automated, AI is not likely to replace all human workers anytime soon. AI is best suited for tasks that involve repetitive or data-driven work, while humans excel at tasks that require creativity, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence.

Therefore, it’s more likely that AI will augment human workers, helping them to become more productive and efficient in their work, rather than completely replace them.

The Star reports that Deputy Human Resources Minister, Mustapha Sakmud said AI technology will not completely replace human workers, therefore, it will not reduce job opportunities. The government is also currently preparing a skilled workforce to manage and operate AI technology.

In response to Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew’s question on reducing the impact of AI on jobs, Mustapha explained that the Skills Development Department (JPK) has developed 182 national job skills standards related to the digital field, particularly in programming, broadcasting, publishing, and telecommunications.

The Manpower Department (JTM) is also working to empower technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions to prepare skilled workers in the digital field and maintain cyber security lab infrastructure.

Mustapha also mentioned the existence of training programs and professional certifications for teaching staff at JTM institutions in cyber security. Additionally, to increase youth participation in the digital field, JPK organizes international and youth-level skills competitions every year, with the participation of 1,300 youths.
