Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil stated that social media platform providers Meta (Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram) and TikTok have pledged their commitment to ensuring online safety measures for children under 13.

Other aspects addressed in the agreement included the monitoring of content related to crimes such as online gambling, scams, fake news, and sensitive topics like race, religion, and royalty (3R).

Fahmi added that the government has informed the two social media platform providers regarding plans to establish a more robust framework for laws governing online safety, including policies and guidelines for the operations of social media platforms in Malaysia.

“This aligns with the MADANI Government’s dedication to upholding the rights of Malaysians to express their concerns and ensuring a productive, harmonious, and safe internet environment for all,” Fahmi said.
