The Cybersecurity Bill, set to be introduced in Parliament on March 25, aims to grant legal authority to the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) to establish and enforce cybersecurity standards for National Critical Information Infrastructure (NCII) entities.

These entities, crucial for various aspects of national functioning, must comply with the standards outlined in the Bill, failure to do so could result in legal consequences, according to The Star.

The NCII encompasses sectors like government, banking, energy, transportation, and healthcare, among others.

NACSA emphasises its commitment to monitoring cyber threats through the National Cyber Coordination and Command Centre (NC4) and enhancing capabilities to uphold national sovereignty and security.

NACSA observes that cybersecurity incidents in Malaysia have surged, mirroring global trends.

High-profile private and government organisations have been targeted by cybercriminals, with an increase in attacks employing info stealer malware to exploit vulnerabilities and steal credentials.

NACSA notes that affected NCII organisations have been proactive in reporting incidents for coordination and monitoring.

To mitigate risks, NACSA recommends immediate measures such as installing antivirus software, changing passwords, and enabling multi-factor authentication.

Threat levels were recently elevated from low to moderate, prompting organisations to enhance their cybersecurity posture and protect critical assets.
