Maxis and Huawei Malaysia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on a 5G-Advanced (5.5G) acceleration program in Malaysia. The initiative aims to drive commercialisation and adoption of 5.5G technology across various sectors.

The MoU was formalised at the Mobile World Congress 2024 in the presence of Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications, and Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din, Chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

The partnership will focus on areas such as use cases, key technologies, ecosystem development, and promoting adoption through trials and testing, according to the statement released by Maxis.

They will also engage solution providers to innovate applications and ecosystem, while leveraging network insights for business solutions and optimisation.

Additionally, both companies will explore opportunities in digital operations, network slicing, and programmability, with alignment to Malaysian Government policies supporting 5.5G advancement.

This MoU builds on their previous collaboration, including successful trials showcasing 5.5G capabilities such as achieving ultra-fast speeds of up to 8Gbps, demonstrating the potential of 5G-Advanced technology in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.
