The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) collaborates with five telecommunication service providers to provide Parental Control Tools, aiding parents in monitoring and managing their children’s online activities.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil explained that these tools allow parents to filter, restrict, and block online content accessed by their children, according to Bernama.

The five telecom service providers involved are CelcomDigi, Maxis, UMobile, Telekom Malaysia (TM), and TIME.

Fahmi highlighted that many social media platforms enforce age restrictions, permitting users aged 13 and above to create accounts. Therefore, parents or guardians are urged to oversee their children’s online engagements to ensure compliance and guide them towards positive content consumption.

Addressing the online risks faced by children, the minister emphasised the intensified efforts in implementing educational programs on internet safety. Initiatives like “Klik Dengan Bijak” (Click Wisely), Malaysia ICT Volunteer (MIV), and the National Information Dissemination Centre (NaDi) are actively conducted in schools nationwide.

These initiatives are bolstered through collaborative endeavours with various agencies to develop education modules focusing on child online protection for parents, guardians, and children.
