In a surprise announcement, Apple unveiled the updated MacBook Air. The new MacBook Air has two models, 13-inch and 15-inch, both powered by the M3 chip.
These laptops come with an enhanced 16-core Neural Engine, capable of running optimised AI models, making the MacBook Air the “world’s best consumer laptop for AI”, according to Apple.
They also include a built-in GPU that facilitates mesh shading and ray tracing. The new MacBooks are equipped with a 1080p FaceTime camera, three microphones, and support for spatial audio and Dolby Atmos.
Both laptops are equipped with a Liquid Retina display and can achieve a brightness of up to 500 nits. They support up to two external displays even when the laptops are closed.
Additionally, they boast an upgrade to Wi-Fi 6E, providing support for the 6GHz band and faster download speeds. The M3 MacBook Air models are equipped with MagSafe charging and two Thunderbolt ports.
Similar to the M2 MacBook Air released in 2022, the M3 models come with a Magic Keyboard that includes a full-height function row with Touch ID.
The M3 MacBook Airs are available in four colours: starlight, space grey, silver, and midnight. The midnight colour features an anodization seal designed to reduce fingerprints.
Pricing and Availability
The 13-inch MacBook Air with M3 starts at RM5,199 and RM4,729 for education, and the 15‑inch MacBook Air with M3 starts at RM6,199 and RM5,729 for education.
At the time of writing, these MacBook Airs are not available for purchase, but Apple said “customers can order the new MacBook Air with M3 soon”.
Apple also reduced the price of the 13-inch MacBook Air with M2. It now starts at RM4,799 and RM4,329 for the education plan.
