Malaysia has achieved the top global ranking for 5G Consistency with a score of 97.29%, according to Ookla.
The announcement was made by Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil at the Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2024, according to Bernama.
The Consistency Score, as per Ookla’s specific methodology, is a measure of 5G performance that takes into account both download and upload speeds. To meet the criteria for consistency, a network must deliver a minimum of 25Mbps for downloads and 3Mbps for uploads.
Fahmi emphasised that this accomplishment reflects Malaysia’s dedication to technological progress, highlighting collaborative efforts across the telecommunications industry, regulatory bodies, and government agencies.
The minister stressed the importance of a robust 5G infrastructure in driving innovation across various sectors and positioning Malaysia as a leader in global telecommunications.
He also showcased recent advancements in 5G-Advanced technology trials and outlined the government’s vision for a connected future, emphasising the need to ensure widespread, reliable high-speed internet connectivity for all Malaysians.
Fahmi also shared that as of the end of 2023, 8.4 million premises in Malaysia now have access to fibre optics, boasting an average mobile broadband speed of 178.1Mbps. Internet coverage in populated areas has also reached 97.07% of premises.
Furthermore, he encouraged Malaysian exhibitors at the congress to foster collaboration, promote innovation, and showcase the country’s commitment to enhancing connectivity.
