Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has assured that telecommunication companies (telcos) will not enforce additional fees for subscribers accessing the 5G network.
The decision, communicated by the CEOs of all telcos, provides subscribers with a range of options for selecting plans and services tailored to their individual needs, according to The Edge Malaysia.
Earlier statements from Fahmi suggested that the government might take action against telcos imposing extra charges on existing customers for 5G access.
He also urged mobile network operators to address telecommunications-related concerns raised by the public, emphasising the people’s right to receive service quality corresponding to the value of their subscriptions.
When questioned about the current status of 5G network coverage in Malaysia, Fahmi indicated that he would disclose this information during a media conference following the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday (10 January).
Additionally, he would announce whether Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) would fall under the jurisdiction of the Communications Ministry or Digital Ministry.
