Transport Minister Anthony Loke has announced a new feature called “Kongsi LKM” on the MyJPJ application, allowing motor vehicle owners to share their digital road tax (e-LKM).

Bernama reports that with this function, owners of vehicles have the ability to share their e-LKM with individuals such as family members, friends, or others who have been granted permission to operate the vehicle.

This sharing function includes customisable time limits set by the owner and requires an activation code for the recipient to activate the shared e-LKM. Loke highlighted that the system automatically deletes the sharing record if not activated within 24 hours.

Loke emphasised that, although the public was previously allowed to print the e-LKM, improvements were made to enhance user convenience.

Furthermore, the ministry plans to replace vehicle license stickers and physical driving licenses (LMM) with security papers. Loke revealed that based on a 2023 study, there is a notable increase in digitalisation, involving 7.5 million users.

However, for those who are not yet ready to embrace digitalisation, physical LKM and LMM will still be available during the interim period in 2024. During this period, JPJ Malaysia will issue physical LKM and LMM in a standardised form using security paper only.

It’s worth noting that the new LKM introduced by the ministry does not require affixing or displaying on the vehicle mirror, as previously mandated by Section 20(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 198.
