Tesla today announced that its latest all-electric SUV, Model Y, is now available to order in Malaysia on Tesla Malaysia’s site, starting from RM199,000.
Tesla claims Model Y is the best-selling all-electric SUV in the world and one of the safest cars on the road, with perfect 5-star ratings from NHTSA and Euro NCAP. As a mid-size SUV, Model Y offers over 2,100 litres of cargo space, providing versatile seating and storage for up to five passengers with their belongings.
With its electric motors, the company claims it only takes 3.7 seconds for the Model Y to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h, with a range of up to 533 km (WLTP) per charge.
WLTP stands for Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure. It is a global standard for determining the levels of pollutants, CO2 emissions and fuel consumption of traditional and hybrid cars, as well as the range of fully electric vehicles.
Besides that, Model Y comes with an all-glass roof, autopilot, active safety features, and a HEPA air filtration system.
You can also customise your Model Y with a variety of options:
- Colour (up to RM10,000)
- Wheels (RM10,000)
- Interior Colour (RM5,000)
- Enhanced Autopilot (RM16,000) or Full-Self Driving Capability (RM32,000)
If you choose all the options, it will cost you up to RM57,000.
Tesla stated that customers purchasing new Tesla electric vehicles (EV) (specifically Completely Built-up electric vehicles) can benefit from full import and excise duties exemption.
Additionally, they will enjoy 100% road tax exemption and have the opportunity to claim individual income tax relief of up to RM2,500 for expenses associated with the installation, rental, purchase (including hire-purchase equipment), or subscription fees for EV charging facilities, applicable for the assessment year of 2023.
Starting at RM199,000, Model Y is available in three trims: Model Y (Rear-wheel drive), Model Y Long Range, and Model Y Performance. The estimated delivery date will be in early 2024.
Model Y Performance model includes increased top speed, 21” Überturbine wheels, lower suspension, performance brakes, carbon fibre spoiler and, performance pedals.
According to Tesla, there are only 10 Superchargers at the moment, one in Perai, Penang, one in Ipoh, Perak, four in KL, two in Selangor, one in Negeri Sembilan, and one in Johor.
At present, the Model Y is the only model available for pre-order. There is currently no information available regarding the availability or pre-order status of the Model 3, which is known to be the most affordable Tesla EV.
