Touch ‘n Go (TNG) Digital is rolling out biometric authentication, including fingerprint and facial recognition, for transactions in its Touch ‘n Go eWallet. Passkeys are also introduced as an option for logging in.

These biometric security features are applicable to various services, such as making payments at outlets, peer-to-peer transfers, DuitNow QR payments, and in-app purchases like topping up prepaid credit and settling bills, according to The Star.

The implementation of these new security measures is occurring gradually, and not all users may have access to these features at the moment, according to TNG Digital. The biometric method for unlocking the app and making payments is part of their security strategy, available to both Apple and Android users.

The security features are compatible with Android devices running operating systems from version 9 to 13 and Apple devices running iOS 16 and later. While facial recognition was initially introduced for iPhone payments in 2021, it was later removed.

For logins, users have the option to use passkeys, leveraging the Fast IDentity Online (FIDO) credential stored on their device for identity verification. This credential encompasses fingerprint and facial recognition, serving as a secure alternative to traditional passwords.

To create a passkey, users can navigate to their profile settings, select Security Authentication, and choose the login option. They can then opt to “Create a passkey,” following on-screen instructions provided by the app.

In the event of a lost device, the company offers a guide on its FAQ page for removing the passkey on Android and Apple devices.
