After 2015, all the subsequent Macbook releases never feature the backlit Apple logo anymore. Nowadays, all Macbooks have this slightly reflective dark matte-ish Apple logo on the lid. But, Apple might be something about the backlit logo again.
Pocket-lint reported that Apple recently filed a new patent with the U.S Patent and Trademark Office and the name of the patent is “Electronic Devices With Backlit Partial Mirror Structures”.
Just by reading the name, it doesn’t mean much, but the description of the patent says the body of a laptop “may be provided with a logo”, also ” the logo or other structures in the device may be provided with a backlit partially reflective mirror”.
It continues by stating that additional components may be set up to let internal device backlight lighting to pass through, resulting in the creation of the well-known backlit logo.
According to Pratik Choudhary, the way the old backlit logo worked was by using the backlight to provide illumination. The luminous Apple logo is a window into the display’s backlight rather than a light source. The back of the display panel is lighted with the Apple logo.
The Apple logo is illuminated as a consequence of the display panel’s light passing through it. This is the explanation for why the brightness of the Apple logo changed along with the screen’s brightness.
It’s important to take note that filing a patent doesn’t mean Apple will implement this in future Macbooks. So, until some leaks start showing, don’t expect to see a backlit Apple logo on Macbooks anytime soon.
