SIRIM Bhd launched Malaysia’s extensive electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem with the introduction of the National Rechargeable Battery Testing Centre (NRBTC). This move is anticipated to significantly enhance the EV value chain by stimulating both supply and demand.
Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, the Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, underscored that this launch positions Malaysia as a pivotal player in the global EV market, according to NST.
He highlighted Malaysia’s commitment to EVs through initiatives such as the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (LCMB) and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).
Emphasising SIRIM’s consistent contribution to industrial development, particularly in research, technology, and quality, he noted the organisation’s valuable role in uplifting industry players across the five priority sectors.
The comprehensive ecosystem includes pattern approvals for EV Charging Systems, the National Rechargeable Battery Testing Centre (NRBTC), and Testing and Certification for EV Charging components and systems.
As part of Majlis SIRIM Industri 2023, the event hosted dignitaries including SIRIM Chairman Datuk Ir Dr Khairol Anuar Mohamad Tawi and President and CEO Datuk Indera Ir Dr Ahmad Sabirin Arshad, along with other industry leaders.
Khairol Anuar stressed the far-reaching impact of the EV ecosystem, likely benefiting all key players in the country, including the public.
He highlighted the creation of high-value job opportunities, the extension of domestic linkages, development of new and existing economic clusters, and enhancement of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices, aligning with the goals of the New Industrial Master Plan 2030.
