Yesterday, we reported that Celcom and Digi have finalised their merger and became the largest telco and locally listed tech company in Malaysia. They are now known as CelcomDigi and exist as a single entity.
In a news report by The Star, Datuk Idham Nawawi and Albern Murty have been formally appointed as chief executive officer and deputy chief executive officer, respectively, of the newly merged company. Datuk Idham Nawawi was the CEO of Celcom and Albern Murty was the CEO of Digi.
The merger, according to Idham, will give the country a stronger ability to invest in new development sectors, create creative solutions using the 5G mobile network, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things, and establish a stronger digital ecosystem.
The merger marked a significant milestone for the telecommunications industry, as two leading organisations combine their strengths and expertise to form a truly Malaysian company.
